About the role
School cleaning work with Golden Star is nightly after-hours maintenance cleaning — arriving after students and staff have left for the day, typically between 4:00 pm and 9:00 pm depending on the campus and team schedule, and completing a systematic clean of classrooms, corridors, bathrooms and common areas before the school day begins the following morning.
We work in Melbourne government, Catholic and independent schools across a wide range of suburbs — from inner-city campuses to outer-eastern and outer-western schools. The work is physical, consistent and requires attention to the detail that keeps a school looking its best for the students, families and staff who use it every day.

Consistent, predictable hours
Regular nightly schedule with predictable start and finish times. School-term-based — no work required over school holiday periods unless you choose holiday deep clean shifts.
WWCC support
We assist new team members in obtaining their Working With Children Check if they do not already hold one. A current WWCC is required before starting work at any school.
Team-based work
Most campuses are cleaned by a team of two or more. You will work as part of a consistent team with clear zone assignments and a team leader for support and coordination.
Training provided
Full training in school cleaning protocols, GECA-certified product use, colour coding hygiene systems and safety procedures is provided at the start of each engagement.
What we look for
School cleaning is more demanding than general commercial cleaning — the compliance requirements (Working With Children Check, product certification standards, completion records) are higher, and the accountability to the schools and communities we serve is real. We look for team members who understand this and take the responsibility seriously.
- Current Working With Children Check (WWCC) — or willingness to obtain one before starting
- Reliable attendance — schools depend on the cleaning being done every scheduled evening
- Physical fitness for the demands of nightly cleaning across a full school campus
- Valid driver's licence and reliable transport to the campus location
- Right to work in Australia — Australian citizen, permanent resident or appropriate visa
- Attention to detail — school cleaning requires consistent standards, not just visible cleanliness
- Respectful approach to working in a school environment
Experience
Prior cleaning experience is an advantage but not a requirement — we provide full training. Experience in institutional cleaning (schools, hospitals, aged care) is valued. What matters most is reliability, attention to detail and a professional approach to the work.
